Mama Mwema is a mother-led initiative that brings together caregivers raising children with Down syndrome and other neurodevelopmental disabilities. Many of these mothers face stigma, isolation, emotional strain, and economic hardship. Mama Mwema exists to restore hope, strengthen resilience, and create a supportive community where no mother walks this journey alone.
Through healing circles, parent education, peer support, and economic empowerment, Mama Mwema helps mothers rebuild confidence, find their voice, and champion their children’s needs with courage and dignity.
What We Do
Psycho social Support Circles
Safe, nurturing spaces where mothers share their experiences, release emotional burdens, receive guidance, and find comfort in a community that understands their journey. These circles help mothers regain emotional strength and rebuild hope
Parent Education and Skills Building
Workshops and training sessions that help mothers understand neurodevelopmental disabilities, early intervention, therapy exercises, communication, positive parenting, and advocacy skills. Mothers gain knowledge and tools to support their children confidently at home and in the community.
Economic Empowerment Groups
Savings and loan groups that help mothers stabilize income, rebuild small businesses, and reduce dependency. Many mothers use these funds to provide food, healthcare, and education for their children. These groups create a pathway for economic resilience and independence.
Draw Your Dreams – Child Engagement Space
A creative and nurturing space where children play, learn, draw, and explore art while their mothers participate in Mama Mwema sessions. This activity supports emotional expression, creativity, and cognitive development, helping children build confidence and joy.
